The Importance of Movement

This month has marked a year of the start of confinement. For many of us, we have moved physical activity off our schedules. As the weather gets warmer, I want to suggest finding ways to add movement into your schedule. Physical movement is not only important for our physical health, but helps our mental health and improves our mood.

What do I mean by movement? An enjoyable activity that gets you moving. Some options may be going for a walk with your dog, dancing, walking in the park, Yoga, running, and swimming. Find something that makes you feel good and you would enjoy. For instance, if running makes you dread getting active; find an activity that you enjoy. There are many benefits of physical activity: better mood, sleep, and productivity are a few. But, although the weather is getting warmer, our activities continue to be limited by social distancing.

Finding different activities that you enjoy can be fun. You could find a new passion for a sport, or you can build upon an already identified hobby. There are different ways to find new hobbies. You could ask a friend, download an app that teaches you about a certain activity, or try a little bit of everything. If you need a break during the day, go for a walk and you can find yourself having clarity. Take your kids outside to play because they will benefit from the movement as well, and it allows you to spend time together.

Lastly, enjoy the upcoming weather however you see fit!
